The People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) denounces Zionist Israel in the highest terms for its two-day large-scale incursion in Jenin City and the aerial raids in Gaza, just days after the Eid festival. The brutal on-ground assault and aerial bombardments of the refugee camp in Jenin left 12 youths dead, 143 injured, and 4000 displaced.
“It is an extermination attack that failed due to heroic people’s resistance,” said Razan Zuayter, PCFS Co-Chairperson, as the people of Jenin firmly held their ground amidst the violent incursion.
Jenin, a city with a rich history of resistance to Zionist incursion and a refugee camp of millions displaced from the Nakba, has been home to many Palestinians who have sacrificed their lives to reclaim their lands.
Resistance fighters pushed back occupying Zionist troops, shot down numerous Israeli military drones, and damaged or destroyed a large number of military vehicles with explosives and roadside bombs. Likewise, thousands of demonstrators had gathered on the streets of the West Bank, Gaza, and occupied Palestine ‘48 to confront the Israeli forces. “It is an extermination war where they used warplanes in a camp of one square kilometer… they withdraw defeated at the end,” the Global Chair added.
The Israeli escalation of colonial bombardments in Gaza happened approximately two months after the 75th year-mark of the Nakba struggle.
Zionist Israel also launched tear gas canisters at the Jenin Governmental Hospital during the incursion. Moreover, prior to the Jenin attack, the aerial bombardments in Gaza and elsewhere in Palestine deprived lots of farmers and fisherfolk communities of access to their livelihoods.
Horrifyingly, the Zionists have repeatedly occupied Palestinian territory and are now responsible for the destruction of Jenin’s homes, streets, and infrastructure with drones and bulldozers. Israel troops’ bulldozers destroyed multiple roads leading to the refugee camp, which caused a significant delay for ambulances and paramedics to reach the victims.
The coalition also slams the US imperialists for actively collaborating with Zionist Israel in the attack on Jenin. Just as barbarically proud Benjamin Netanyahu is of the “moral and political backing” the US has been giving his regime, it must be taken into account that this yet again proves the urgency of the continuing investigations by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) into these two regimes.
We call on the international community, especially the rural and peace-loving peoples of the world, to stand with Palestine and hold the Israeli occupiers accountable for their latest crimes in Jenin and Gaza.
