We’re nearing a point of no return and barreling down a spiraling path of worsening hunger, poverty, and climate collapse.

Today, we’re far down the road of global hunger, poverty, and climate collapse.

With prices skyrocketing to their highest levels since World War 2, nearly one in three people, or 2.37 billion people, simply cannot afford to eat regularly.

In the poorest countries worldwide, working people have shelled out 20 to 30% more for food in the past three years alone. Hunger is on the rise at a time when we’re producing far more than we’ll ever need.

Ironically, rural food producers in the Global South are among the most hungry. Landless peasants, farmers, rural wage earners, indigenous peoples and Dalits, pastoralists, fisherfolk, rural women, and youth do not enjoy the fruits of their labor. Instead, they are forced to live off the crumbs of monopolistic landlords and transnational corporations (TNCs) siphoning off their incomes.

Our ongoing ruin is a result of a few elites from the world’s wealthiest nations holding the reins. Imperialist plunder and colonialism, domestic land monopolies, and decades of neoliberalism paved this catastrophic path.

Meanwhile, imperialists and their cohorts continue to push the pedal toward an increasingly unlivable future on an uninhabitable planet; They’re driving us off the cliff while they sit comfortably with their parachutes.

From corporate-led, technology-driven silver bullets to outright colonial and plunderous schemes, current ‘solutions’ are being planned and/or implemented at the expense of rural people’s rights. 

How do we #ForwardtheFuture?

We must pump the brakes and force a sharp turn away from imperialism’s destructive path. Nothing short of a radical transformation of our food systems — a systems change — can solve the worsening crises of today.

To chart a pro-people and pro-planet future from the current crisis-ridden trajectory of imperialists and their TNCs, the Global People’s Caravan asserts three breaks and three radical shifts:

1. Break the chains of imperialist plunder and TNC profiteering

• • Break the domination of imperialism over global governance. 
  • Break imperialist and TNC control over our food systems.
  • Break away from fossil-fuel-hungry food systems.

1. Shift the power to the people:
   1. Shift the bias of policymaking towards the peoples’ rights and aspirations. 
   2. Shift the control over lands and natural resources.
   3. Shift the financing towards radical transformation of food systems.

We must dismantle the roadblocks of imperialist control of our food systems and false climate solutions while forcing a sharp turn towards people-led pathways to a better future.

For a truly people-led and just energy transition, rural peoples’ voices—including those of the landless, indigenous peoples, plantation workers, rural women and youth, agricultural workers, and fish workers—must be at the forefront. 

We must build people’s power to chart people-led pathways towards just, equitable, healthy, and sustainable futures NOW!
